There are essentially two categories of myofascial release techniques: Direct and Indirect. I use both.
Direct Myofascial Release is more like a very slow and deep tissue massage. By working slowly, without oil, the nervous system has a chance to create change in the soft tissue (skin, muscle, fascia, tendon, nerve).
Indirect Myofascial Release uses specific holds and gentle stretches to allow tension patterns to fully and completely release and unwind, leaving the client with a body that feels lighter and moves in a more fluid, easy way.
In most sessions both techniques are used, depending on the nature of the condition and the areas that are being worked.
